Monday 3 – Friday 7 June 2019

 

Pre-School

This week the children in Pre-school have been learning about fish, seahorses and mermaids in their ‘Under the Sea’ topic, playing the shark game with Mrs Millard in the hall, and making and decorating sea creatures.  

 

The things we found most interesting and exciting this week were….

 

“Painting my mermaid!”  “Decorating fish!” “Playing the shark game!”

Reception

This week the children in Reception Class have been using 3D shapes in maths, learning all about the Queen’s birthday and learning lots of facts about different animals. 

 

The things we found most interesting and exciting this week were….

 

“Learning about dinosaurs!” “Animals!” “Playing with Lego!” “Doing my phonics”

Class 1

This week the children in Class 1 have been learning more about animals that lay eggs as part of their ‘Out of an Egg’ topic, designing their own lighthouses, and working on old and new sounds in phonics. 

 

The things we found most interesting and exciting this week were….

 

“Learning new sounds!” “Colouring in my lighthouse!”

Class 2

This week the children in Class 2 have been learning column addition in maths, learning how to write a non-chronological report in literacy and practising their dance for the Summer Fair.  

 

The things we found most interesting and exciting this week were….

 

“Learning about fractions!" “Column addition” “I liked writing a non-chronological report!”

Class 3

This week the children in Class 3 have been learning all about healthy lifestyle choices including diet and exercise, expanding their knowledge of 3D shapes and making their own 3D paper monsters. 

 

The things we found most interesting and exciting this week were….

 

“Learning about shapes!” “Practising our maypole dance for the Summer Fair!”

Class 4

This week the children in Class 4 have been calculating the area and perimeter of shapes using metres and centimetres, learning about D-Day and painting ‘Blazing Blitz’ pictures as part of their World War II topic, brushing up on their skills in PE ahead of the athletics tournament and learning about homophones. 

 

The things we found most interesting and exciting this week were…

 

“Using powder paint in my Blitz picture!” “Learning about perimeters in maths!”

Class 5

This week the children in Class 5 have been locating theme parks on a map of England in geography, learning about synonyms in literacy, revisiting challenging topics in maths including prime numbers and designing their own D-Day medals. 

 

The things we found most interesting and exciting this week were….

 

“I enjoyed making medals for people who fought on D-Day!” “We smashed the cricket tournament!”

Class 6

This week the children in Class 6 have been rehearsing for their end-of-year play, learning how to write a play script, took part in the cricket tournament with teammates from Class 5 and learnt about different world views in RE.  

 

The things we found most interesting and exciting this week were….

 

“Learning about world views!” “Going to the cricket tournament!”

NEW / Spotlight on Assembly! 
On Friday morning, we welcomed our visitors from the church who spoke to us about our futures and being open to and embracing new ideas as we grow up.  They used the life cycle of caterpillars, moths and butterflies to illustrate how we change as we develop from children into adults.
